From the Trades to Digital Marketing
I built my career outside the traditional marketing path. I started in landscape construction and irrigation systems. That work taught me to test systems before deployment, identify failures early, and make decisions based on measurable outcomes.
In 2013, I worked for a landscape design/build company in Victoria, BC. A friend introduced me to affiliate marketing. I started with simple creative work: designing mobile banner ads for PPC campaigns. The work expanded quickly. I learned to track clicks, measure attribution, and test campaigns systematically.
Construction principles transferred directly to digital marketing. Test the foundation before building. Fix issues early. Make decisions based on data, not assumptions.
I founded Marksman Digital Media in 2015. The company started as a vehicle for affiliate marketing projects. I always intended to build something more substantial. In 2019, I completed Mint CRO’s advanced Meta ads and conversion rate optimization course. That training crystallized the methodology I had been developing for years.
